Welcome to our third edition of Nominet News for 2007.
The months since our previous edition have been extremely busy, exciting and challenging in equal measure.
At the beginning of June we released our Online Services for registrars and registrants. This major project enables customers to manage their accounts online and lays the foundations for significant developments in the future such as the launch of EPP. In this issue we hear from Jay Daley, Director of IT and Eleanor Bradley, Director of Operations about the challenges and successes associated with the data restructure and project implementation. Country Code Names Supporting Organisation (ccNSO)
Lesley Cowley, our CEO, is a member of this organisation that is responsible for developing and recommending global policies relating to country-code top-level domains to ICANN’s Board. Lesley led a session on participation: only 60 of the 240 ccTLDs are members of the ccNSO, so they are looking for ways to engage the others and to make the community more representative of the global community. Following the debate, Lesley was appointed to chair a working group looking at participation. More ›

Welcome to our second edition of Nominet News for 2007.

I have just returned from Lisbon, where the latest ICANN meeting took place and we have a report on the key issues discussed at that event. I also share some of my predictions for what the UK Internet industry might look like in five years’ time, as presented in my keynote speech to the UK Domain Channel Conference in February. Jay and I attended the latest ICANN meeting from 2-7 December in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
At the meeting, we joined the debate regarding the proposed ICANN strategic plan for 2007-2010. The plan, which was finalised and approved at the meeting, describes the challenges and opportunities that ICANN is likely to face in the coming years and outlines five strategic objectives for the ICANN community. On 9 October 2006 we hosted “The road to Athens”, a UK Internet governance stakeholder event at the RICS Venues Centre in London, which was instigated, organised and sponsored by Nominet.
A pre-cursor to the upcoming world Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Athens (30 October - 2 November), the forum built on our strategy of playing a leading role in the worldwide discussion of Internet Governance. This sees us working closely with organisations such as the United Nations, ICANN and worldwide domain name registry organisations as well as the IGF. More ›
