Possible introduction of .uk.name

Thank you to those of you who submitted feedback to us regarding the proposal by Global Name Registry to introduce two-character strings within .name at the second level, and by implication the possible introduction of .uk.name.

Following input from Nominet, other ccTLDs and various other parties, ICANN referred the proposal for further consideration by the Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel (RSTEP). We made a submission to ICANN incorporating the comments we received from our members and stakeholders.

RSTEP reported back the outcome of their investigation on 6th December 2006. View announcement.

As you will see following receipt of the RSTEP report, the ICANN Board will determine whether the proposed Registry Service creates a reasonable risk of a meaningful adverse effect on Stability or Security. We will keep you posted with any further developments.
